This cable can be used to connect serial interfaces of your microcontroller Raspberry Pi, Arduino or similar devices to a USB interface.
A USB serial transformer chip is integrated in the USB plug.
Four wires are provided at the other end of the cable:
Red = Power 5V/ 500mA
Black = Ground
White = RX
Green = TX
RX / TX have the popular 3.3V Logic level.
The separate lines make this cable ideal for the connection to the debug/login port on the Raspberry Pi or BeagleBone Black.
As soon as you have connected the cable and the Raspberry Pi or BBB has displayed the hook-up, you can install the driver on your Windows XP/Vista/7 or MacOS X computer and use a terminal program with 115200 baud to create a connection.
As the cable does not have DTR / RTS signals, you should not use it for programming an Arduinos . These signals are necessary for starting the boot loader reboot procedure.
This item is unfortunately not compatible with Windows 8!
